Smart Shoppers: Nectarines versus Bananas – Which has more chemicals?

If you aren’t able to buy exclusively organic produce, which types of fruit or veggies should you always buy organic, and which ones can you safely buy conventional? You can go to http://www.foodnews.org/ to see a list of all your favorite fruits and veggies and how each ranks.

Did you know that your health is not the only reason to buy organic? Conventional farming practices impact our environment a lot more than organic farming.

Eat a Healthy Snack!

Hardboiled eggs, especially organic ones, are one of the healthiest snacks you can easily have on hand. I boil 6 in advance and always have them in my fridge. They are easy to transport and can be tossed in a packed lunch and can even be used as your protein source at dinner when you don’t have time to cook. This is much healthier, faster, and cheaper than grabbing to-go food. For those of you with calorie or cholesterol concerns, just eat the egg whites.

How to Make Yourself Exercise

Most people postpone daily exercise. Why? They don’t have a routine. My husband, a physical therapist, recommends picking a set time and sticking to that daily. If you are someone who really can’t get to it, start with a low time commitment. Even 15 minutes per day is better than nothing.

Choose a time that you are most likely to succeed. If you are not an early-riser don’t decide to get up 30 minutes early every day to fit in exercise. Instead go for a walk on your lunch break or exercise in the afternoon when you are more likely to stick with it. The key is making it into a routine and to be successful. Try to go 2 weeks, 15 minutes per day, at the same time each day and work up from there.
